Brazil Day One

We spent part of the morning recovering from traveling all day Saturday.  In the afternoon, we had a lunch at a nearby restaurant in Manaus.  The place was packed.  It turns out that Sunday was a holiday in Brazil for “Day of the Woman.”

After lunch we traveled to Puraquequara (“Home of the Electric Eel”) where our host family lives.  PQ, as they call it, is where the boarding school is for a number of the missionary children with New Tribes Mission. We had a relaxing time sitting outside on the porch and watching the children play in a flash rainstorm.  It was fun to watch their unbridled joy while running in the rain and standing under downspouts getting thoroughly soaked.

At 7 we went to the chapel for service.  The youth led the service and did a great job in the praise and worship.  We closed with communion.

I told a couple of the teachers that any of the students who wanted to learn about night photography could show up about 9 – 9:15 pm, and I would teach them some techniques.

There were about seven who came over.  These are some of the photos we took to exhibit the technique of “light painting.”  We used a strong LED flashlight to illuminate most of the subjects except the one of the “moonlit cloudy night” photo which is simply a night landscape using only the moonlight.

I concluded the day with an incredible bowl of soup, a refreshing shower after and the “ritual killing of the mosquito in the room.”
