One Grain of Sand
One grain of sand. Insignificant, right? Well, maybe or maybe not.
Pick up a handful of sand. How many grains of sand are there in there? 1000? 5000? Who knows? With that in mind, it is incomprehensible how many grains of sand would be on a mile-long stretch of a beautiful, sandy, beach. Even more unfathomable would be the number of grains of sand in an ocean, or in all the oceans of the world. One grain of sand in that context does not seem like much.
But, what if that grain of sand represented a year? It would seem a little more important, most people would agree. Can you imagine spending a year of your life in a horrible place, where you were being continually tortured and tormented? In that context, a year would be an awfully long time.
Considering these facts, think about eternity. If you had to spend eternity in eternal torment, separated from God, and if you had completed the first year of your never-ending sentence, imagine how you would feel, knowing that the first year was only a grain of sand. That grain of sand is only one in a handful, only one on a mile-long stretch of beach, only one in the vast ocean, only one in the world of oceans and that there are a never-ending number of worlds filled with oceans full of sand. Close your eyes and picture sand as far as the eyes can see.
Eternity is beyond human comprehension. But, when it is put into perspective, comparing it to grains of sand, it becomes a little more understandable.
What will you do with your 70 or so grains of sand? Perhaps you will be blessed with 80, 90, or even 100 grains. Or, you may be one of the unfortunate people who are only given 20 or 30 grains of sand. 100 grains of sand will not even fill up a teaspoon, much less a hand-full.
With that in mind, do you know where you will spend eternity? It is your choice, you know. Heaven or Hell. It’s that simple. Considering what is at stake, can you afford to throw away your few grains of sand, rejecting the one who wants to spend eternity with you in heaven, to exchange it for never-ending torment in a real place called Hell, away from God, your family and friends? Hell is real; it is a burning fire filled with demons, demonic people and other tortured souls who rejected God.
Please, for your own sake, make up your mind once and for all to accept God’s free gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ. He paid the penalty for your sins through his death on the cross. Jesus loves you and wants to know you in a personal relationship. Live for Jesus every day and remember the grains of sand. There will be as many grains of sand in heaven as there are in hell. Don’t waste yours.
